O'Connell Robertson
is providing complete A/E services for a new 98,000 SF high school
for Jarrell ISD. The Firm also provided strategic support for the
bond referendum development, including cost estimates and conceptual
programming, as well as communications and public relations support
for the Districts public information program.
We knew
we had a huge PR job before us to be able to pass a bond for a new
high school in Jarrell ISD. We leaned heavily on the expertise in
ORA to guide us in a multi-faceted approach to bond communications,
said Dr. Jamie Mattison, Superintendent, Jarrell ISD
Once the bond
issue passed, the District, which has a strong relationship with
the community, requested a very open and participatory design process
for the new high school, which will replace a facility originally
built in 1916. ORA facilitated community meeting and numerous programming
sessions with teachers, staff and the board of trustees to receive
input on educational standards and preferences for the facility.
The new facility is designed to provide a quality learning environment
that is flexible to the future needs of the district and is a safe
place for students. The building plan meets or exceeds all TEA facility
standards and is tailored to meet the needs of JISDs curriculum.
Specifically,
the new high school is designed to provide classroom space for 350
students and core areas (cafeteria, library, physical education,
fine arts) to support 700 students. The plan includes: a library
at the main entry with easy-access for community use; three computer
labs; a cafeteria to support 350 students per lunch period and a
stage for performances; a separate band hall and choir room with
soundproof practice and ensemble rooms; a Cougar gym and physical
education gym; a career and technology building; and three science
classrooms with state-of-the-art lab and lecture space.
